In High School football action Saturday around Western New York.
St. Joe’s 53 O’Hara 16
Sophomore quarterback Mike McCarthy was 7 of 9 for 257 yards and three touchdowns for the unbeaten Marauders. He threw TD passes of 62, 26, and 98 yards. Running back Nigel Davis had 94 yards on five carries and two touchdowns. Davis scored on St. Joe’s first possession for the second straight week, a 66 yard run. His other touchdown was a six yard run. Defensively senior Cordell Owens had 8 tackles and a forced fumble. Sophomore Justin Jones had six tackles, one for a sack and one for a loss. He also caught a touchdown pass in the first quarter. Senior tight end Tyler Hill had two catches, both for touchdowns. St. Joe’s hosts the top rated team in New York State, Aquinas next Saturday afternoon at 1-pm.
Lackawanna 42 JFK 6
Cam Smith led the Steelers with 168 yards rushing on 15 carries. He scored three touchdowns on runs of 2, 24, and 80 yards. Quarterback Dylan Gregoire was 7 for 11 for 120 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Sireika caught two touchdown passes, one for 14 and oen for 17 yards. Angelo Miranda caught a 23 yard touchdown strike. Lackawanna is 3-0 and home vs. Cleveland Hill Friday night.
Tonawanda 17 Newfane 7
The Warriors defense held Newfane to 68 total yards. Quarterback Chris Mara was 7 for 10 for 91 yards. He threw a 26 yard touchdown pass to Jordan Cifarelli. Tim Barnard had 28 carries for 106 yards. Tonawanda is at Akron next weekend.
Sherman 34 Catt Little Valley 8
Devin Moorhead led Sherman with 23 carries for 139 yards rushing and he scored two touchdowns. Andrew Graham rushed for 89 yards on 11 carries and scored two touchdowns. Sherman is 3-0 and home against Pine Valley next weekend.
Canisius 14 Walsh Jesuit 0
Qadree Ollison rushed for 157 yards on t27 carries and he scored touchdowns on runs of 21 and 34 yards in the Crusaders victory. The defense held Waslh to 83 yard just seven in the second half. Ryan Richards had a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Richards had eight tackles. Mike Sharpe had five tackles. Canisius is at St. Francis Friday night.
