Saturday Roundup: MTCS baseball wins 9-A opener

Middle Tennessee Christian School’s baseball team opened District 9-A play on Saturday with a 14-1 win over Cascade.

Peyton Buckner picked up the win for the Cougars (2-0, 1-0), going five innings and allowing no earned runs, two hits, two walks while striking out four.

Justin Winn went 4-for-4 with a double and six RBIs, Joe Waner had two hits, including a double and one RBI, Caleb Gibson had two hits, two runs and an RBI, and Austin Melton had a hit, three runs and one RBI.

Brentwood 12, Riverdale 7

Trevor Sutton went 3-for-4 with his second homer of the season, and Riley Walters went 3-for-4. Jordan McNeal took the loss for the Warriors (2-2).

Central Magnet 15, Hendersonville 2

Hunter Poff threw four scoreless innings, allowed just one hit. Colt Flippo went 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Austin Worley went 2-for-3

Earlier in the day, Central fell 12-2 to Brentwood. Tyler Egawa had an RBI double.

Softball

MTCS 14, Central Magnet 9

Devan Welker had a triple, single and one RBI, Abby Sweeney had a single, double, home run and one RBI, and Kayla Pickard had a triple and three RBIs. Claire Patton picked up the win.

Andrew White and Colin Williams scored goals for Siegel.

Siegel 3, Soddy Daisy 0

Andrew White, Colin Williams and Daniel Kim scored for Siegel. Trey Jernigan had the shutout in goal.

Smyrna 4, Tullahoma 0

Ramon Sandoval, Derek Knotts, Tha Ku and Devon Kucker scored for Smyrna (2-0). Peyton Bowles and Andy Mendez each had an assist. Josh Perkins was goalkeeper.

Central Magnet 1, Tullahoma 0

Xavior Phillips scored on an assist from Kellum Johnson. Kris Dobson had eight saves for the Tigers (3-0).

Riverdale track sweeps

Riverdale’s girls and boys won the the Early Bird Championships on Saturday. Riverdale girls had 216 points, Siegel was third (109.5), Blackman was fifth (53.5), Central Magnet was sixth (38) and MTCS was ninth (16).

Riverdale’s boys had 178.5 points, Blackman was third (112.5), Siegel was fourth (88), Central Magnet took seventh (38), Eagleville was ninth (10) and Smyrna 10th (1).

Blackman’s Isabelle Legrain won the 400-meter dash and Siegel’s Nicole Gardner won the 800. Riverdale’s Rockesia Mintlow and Derriana Parrish took first and second in the 100 hurdles, while Siegel’s Brittney Beverly was third.

Parrish won the the 300 hurdles, Beverly was second and Riverdale’s Tamia Aldridge was third. Riverdale won the 4×100 relay, 4×200 relay, 4×400 relay and 4×800 relays. Mintlow also won the high jump

Blackman’s Dee Mathers won the 100 meters, Siegel’s Jacob Hayes was second and Blackman’s Styles Corder was third. Corder also won the 200 meters. Blackman’s Brandon Frey won the 400 meters, Riverdale’s Harvey Brandon won the 800 meters, and Central’s Noah Delk was third. Brandon also won the 1,600, while Siegel’s Spencer Pennington was second. Brandon won the 3,200, and Siegel’s Drake Uselton was third.

Riverdale’s Johnathan McCrary won the 110 hurdles, while teammates Torey Wilkerson and Tad Onwu were second and third. Riverdale’s Terrance Watkins won the 300 hurdles, while McCrary was second. Riverdale also won the 4×100 and 4×200 relays.
