Saturday's live boys basketball sectional roundup

If you like high school basketball, you have to love these sectionals. Sixty-nine of the games heading into Saturday’s finals had been decided by five points or less or in overtime. And no one can complain they’re not getting enough basketball – there has been 22 overtime periods, the equivalent of nearly three extra games.

“I knew I had to make a big play for my team,” said Pike guard Taishun Johnson after hitting a game-winning 3-pointer. “They believed in me and I had confidence in that shot, and I hit it.”

Cathedral 66, Tech 50

As the NCAA tournament anthem “One Shining Moment” played over the loudspeakers, senior Collin Hartman explained why he only clipped a small piece of the net after Cathedral’s first boys basketball sectional championship in 15 years.

“This is just the start of it,” Hartman said after finishing with 16 points and nine rebounds in Cathedral’s 66-50 Sectional 10 win over a Tech team playing without an injured Trey Lyles on Saturday night at Warren Central. “We plan on cutting down a lot more nets.”
