Saturday's prep highlights: Neenah runners race to girls' cross country title

Neenah placed its first five runners in the top 10 and won the Jamie Block Memorial Invitational girls’ cross country title by more than four minutes over runner-up Madison West in West Bend West on Saturday.

Neenah’s Jessica Parker finished first with a time of 14:38, with Jennifer Parker one second behind. Maraya Harn, Jessie Laabs and Ellen Knaus finished seventh, eighth and 10th, respectively, for Neenah.

In the boys’ race, Neenah finished second with a combined time of 1:25:02, 44 seconds behind first-place West Bend West.

Calvin Baumgartener was Neenah’s top runner, finishing ninth with a time of 16:48.

Soccer

Neenah defeated Middleton 5-2 in the Neenah Quadrangular.

The Rockets broke away from a 1-1 halftime score with four goals in the second half.

Volleyball

» Appleton East went 7-0 in the Wisconsin Rapids Invitational with wins over Rib Lake, Colby, Abbotsford, Laconia, Medford, Fox Valley Lutheran and Wisconsin Rapids to win the invitational championship.

Kenzie Wockenfus led the Patriots with 113 assists. Mak Morgen had 66 kills and 42 digs, while Emily Habek had 25 aces.

» Neenah finished tied for third out of 24 teams in the powerhouse St. Thomas More Invitational in Mequon.

The Rockets posted wins over Wisconsin Lutheran, Greenfield, Westosha Central, Catholic Memorial and Burlington before losing eventual champion East Troy in the Gold bracket semifinals.

Haley Barnes led the Rockets with 49 kills, while Jenny Johnson had 40 digs and Bailey LaMarche had 62 aces.

Football

Benjamin Davis ran for 126 yards and a touchdown but Winneconne fell 21-7 to Omro in Omro on Friday.
