Saugerties ends Spackenkill boys basketball team's win streak

NEW PALTZ — The Spackenkill High School boys basketball team suffered a 69-47 loss to Saugerties in the Officials vs. Cancer event at SUNY New Paltz on Saturday.

The Sawyers (9-1) snapped the Spartans’ four-game winning streak despite 14 points from Josh Riley and 12 from Marc Horvath.
“I thought our backcourt was a little tentative,” Spackenkill coach Terry Feeley said. “We’ve got some young guys back there. It’s a good learning experience. It was really one of the first games where we were under a lot of pressure in the backcourt and we really didn’t handle it that well.
“Overall, we’re going to have to bring a better effort if we’re going to beat teams as good at Saugerties or to make a run in sectionals.”
Spackenkill dropped to 6-3.
JT Elmendorf led Saugerties with a game-high 17 points, while Josh Gibbs chipped in with 12.
