Senior right-hander Alexis Schengrund threw a four-hit shutout, walked one and struck out 10 Saturday to lead the top-seeded Hillsborough High School softball team to a 8-0 victory over fourth-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan in the semifinals of the Somerset County Tournament.
The Raiders (17-1) got off to a fast start, scoring four times in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double by junior right fielder Donna Conrad and a sacrifice fly by Rachel Handel.
Handel made it 6-0 Hillsborough in the fourth with a two-run single, before the Raiders capped it in the sixth on RBI doubles by Schengrund and Kelly Wishard.

Hillsborough will be seeking No. 6 when it faces the winner of the game between second-seeded Immaculata and third-seeded defending champion Watchung Hills at 7:30 p.m. next Saturday at Torpey Field in Bridgewater.
The Immaculata-Watchung Hills game was postponed from Saturday night and will be played a 4 p.m. Monday at North Branch Park.
“This team is on a mission and has been since we started this year,” Raiders coach Cheryl Iaione said. “And we’re not going to be satisfied unless we win this thing.”
