Scoopshot: Rivalry

Scoopshot of the week

USA TODAY High School Sports, in conjunction with Scoopshot, launched a photography series in which anyone could see their work published here. Scoopshooters were asked to send entertaining, high school sport-related photos that addressed each week’s Scoopshot task and we featured the photos each week that we thought best completed the task. Click any photo to view all the submissions to this Scoopshot task.

This week’s task asked you to send us a photo best representing a local high school rivalry that you’re a part of, and to tell us why it’s the best rivalry.

The photo which best answered the challenge comes to us again from Jessica Woodward in Cherry Valley, CA. Jessica has been featured multiple times now, and has brought the “Battle of the Wheel” to our attention. I did ask local fans to respond in the last article and encourage us to include the Battle of the Wheel in November’s 2013 “Best Rivalry” competition. The Battle of the Wheel was brought before the group that decides which rivalries make the cut, including weighing advice from state athletic associations. Many factors were considered and the Battle of the Wheel fell just short of entry this year, but please, make yourselves heard more clearly in the comments below.

Jessica describes the rivalry in her submission, “Banning vs. Beaumont, [is] riverside county’s oldest football rivalry since 1925. After 4 years with the wheel Banning took the trophy back after a 20-10 win over Beaumont. You know it’s battle week when you see the sea of green in Banning and blue in Beaumont.”

You know it’s battle week when you see the sea of green in Banning and blue in Beaumont.

Keep up the great work.

Congratulations to our Scoopshooter of the Week!
