When teams key in on Forest Dandy Dozen forward LaDerrick Scott, it only opens up outside shooters.
That was the case Thursday evening.
Behind Scott and the shooting of Devardrick Carter, Forest raced past St. Andrew’s 56-39 in the semifinals of the Region 6-3A tournament at St. Andrew’s.
Forest (16-8) will play tonight against the winner of Thursday’s late game between McLaurin and Morton. More importantly, the Bearcats will host a first round game Tuesday in the Class 3A playoffs.
“When you have a guy like LaDerrick who is so big in our league and he’s in the open floor he does a good job of finding the open man to get good shots and that is what happened tonight,” Forest coach Perry Fletcher said. “We get to play at home in first round of playoffs and that is real big for us.”
Carter led Forest with 12 points, while Scott added 11 and Labriski Rayford chipped in 10 points.
Robert Wilson led St. Andrew’s 16 points, while Dallas Prater added 13 points for the Saints (17-11), whoo are in the playoffs for the first time in Class 3A.
Dandy Dozen forward Dennis Miles poured in a game-high 18 points as the Wildcats overwhelmed the Panthers in the Region 5-6A tournament. Torlorf Thomas and Devonte Brewster added 17 points each for Meridian (23-5), ranked No. 6 in the Super 10 and No. 2 in 6A.
Ocean Springs 45
Zach Parker scored a game-high 17 points to lift the Indians past the Greyhounds in the Region 7-6A tournament. Tavonn Tyson added 16 points for Biloxi (18-5), ranked No. 7 in Super 10 and No. 3 in 6A.
Leake County 61
Quinton Campbell scored 24 points as the Yellow Jackets edged the Gators in overtime of the Region 6-2A tournament. Adrien Campbell added 20 points for Union (20-6). Kobe Gates had 30 points for Leake County.
Sebastopol 55, Hartfield Aca. 53
Eric Burke scored 14 points as the Bobcats edged the Hawks in the Region 6-1A tournament.
Scott Central 60, Puckett 49
Dandy Dozen Victoria Vivians poured in a game-high 48 points as the Lady Rebels held off the Lady Wolves in the Region 6-2A tournament. Vivians, the nation’s third leading scorer, is now averaging 39.4 points per game.
Port Gibson 51, Richland 46
Kentija Tarleton scored 14 points as the Lady Blue Wave edged the Lady Rangers in the Region 6-4A tournament. Jnitra Ratliff chipped in 12 points for Port Gibson (22-3).
Pisgah 67, Eupora 57
Alexis Luckett poured in a game-high 27 points to lift the Lady Dragons past the Lady Eagles in the Region 5-2A tournament. Pisgah will play East Webster tonight for the division tournament title.
McAdams 55, Durant 41
Chelsea Kilbert scored 15 points to lift the Lady Bulldogs past the Lady Tigers in the Region 6-1A tournament.
