ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.- One bright spot for Grand Island coming into 2013 is the return of quarterback Quinn Corrao. He’ll be the man under center once again for Dean Santorio’s squad. But Corrao isn’t the only key player returning for another season.
“We’re looking forward to it every year with the anticipation of a new season, we look forward to it. We had a nice nucleus from last year coming back, we were 7-2 last year so we’re hoping to build on that. Our starting quarterback is back, Quinn Corrao, one of our starting running backs and wide receivers and we have four linemen back from our starting group. We think we’re going to be pretty solid up front and hopefully that’s a good foundation,” Coach Santorio told Two on Your Side’s Adam Benigni at the Lions Ad-Pro All Star Game.
One key for Coach Santorio is the work his experienced players can produce. So far, he’s seen those leaders putting in the hours during the off season.
“I think we really have nice senior leadership this year. This group that we have coming back has worked extremely hard so far in the off season. I think we’re going to be pretty physical which is great. We might have one of the more physical offensive lines that we’ve had in a while. That feels good to know going into the season, you think you’ll be fairly tough up front and hopefully some other things fall into place,” Coach Santorio said.
There are many goals Grand Island has for the 2013 season but Coach Santorio is relying on his older players to take them far this year.
“Obviously you always go in being positive, hoping for the best and hoping to put a playoff run together. Hopefully this year with the success we had it carries over a little bit and I think that’s where we’re getting some of that senior leadership. They’ve been through it, they had some success and I think they obviously want to take it to the next level,” Coach Santorio explained.
Grand Island opens up the 2013 season on the road against Hamburg on September 6th at 7pm.
