Seniors Chris Pittman and Clifton Duck scored two touchdowns apiece in the Blue Ridge High football team’s 55-26 victory over visiting J.L. Mann on Friday night.

“We have a good group of seniors,” Blue Ridge coach Shane Clark said. “We need them to continue to lead us and be good examples for the underclassmen.”

The Patriots took a 6-0 lead. After two early turnovers, the Tigers reeled off 34 consecutive points to close out the half.

Pittman, primarily a linebacker, was inserted into Blue Ridge’s wing package as a running back. His first touchdown gave the Tigers a 14-6 lead at the 11:56 mark of the second quarter.

“Chris got behind a couple of our offensive linemen,” Clark said. “Those guys were able to push their way into the end zone.”

The linebacker collected his second rushing touchdown on a 3-yard carry to give Blue Ridge a 20-6 lead with 3:08 remaining in the half.

Duck scored his first touchdown with 2:21 remaining in the second quarter, giving the Tigers a 26-6. The senior got into the end zone again on a 55-yard reception in the third quarter.

Duck had 11 receptions for 159 yards on the night.

“Clifton made some really nice catches tonight,” Clark said. “I was really pleased with all of our running backs and wide receivers.”

Another senior, defensive lineman Alfredo Hernandez, recovered a fumble at JL Mann’s 22-yard line with 5:14 left in the first half. Six plays later, Pittman rumbled into the end zone for his second touchdown.

Blue Ridge (2-0) travels to on Friday.

* Eastside quarterback Drake Turnquist passed for 202 yards and a touchdown, but Christ Church rolled to a 31-7 victory over the visiting Eagles.
