Shore dominant in shutout win over South River

The Shore Regional Blue Devils played a near perfect game, which sparked a 45-0 shutout over the Rams of South River Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils dominated on both sides of the ball, scoring 38 of their 45 points before the half, and defensively, they held the Rams to less than 100 yards of total offense on the day.

“We were outstanding,” Shore head coach Mark Costantino said. “We’ve been misfiring the last few games and we’ve been letting teams hang around. This is what we should be doing and we haven’t been doing this. We needed this game.”

The Blue Devils won the game at the line of scrimmage all day. They were able to run the ball well with their basic running attack, and worked play action off of that. The Blue Devils’ also stopped the running game of South River, holding them to under 50 yards.

“I’m very happy with our performance,” Costantino said. “We are going to build from this.”

Blue Devils’ quarterback, Matt Muh passed the ball seven times, completing six passes for 91 yards and two scores.

“We came out and did exactly what we needed to do,” Muh said. “We really wanted to make a statement this week and that’s exactly what we did. Coach called a great game and we had a lot of energy today. We need to keep making plays and do exactly what we need to do.”

On the other hand, South River struggled all game on both sides of the ball. They were unable to move the ball on offense, they turned the ball over, and stopping Muh’s play action game seemed unrealistic all game.

“No doubt we got our butts kicked pretty good by a good club,” Rams head coach, Rich Marchesi said. “We got to regroup and get better, I don’t think it was as bad as the score indicates, but we are going to come back strong next week.”

Next week, Shore Regional is at home against Holmdel, and the South River Rams will travel to Dunellen to take on the Destroyers.
