Shore's Johnson a future Tar Heel


Asbury Park Press field hockey player of the year, Shannon Johnson of Shore Regional, signed her National Letter of Intent on Wednesday to attend the University of North Carolina, according to Shore athletic director Nick Ciambrone.

Johnson, a senior goalie, led Shore to an 18-2 record, the Shore Conference Class B Central title and the Shore Conference Tournament title. In her four seasons with the Blue Devils, Johnson had 294 saves, 53 shutouts and 59 goals against.

In other field hockey signings, Rumson Fair-Haven’s Emma Fitzgerald signed with Bucknell University and Freehold’s Sydney Duven and St. John Vianney’s Nicole Granito each signed with Sacred Heart.

In girls soccer

Middletown South’s Bridget Skinner signed with Ohio State. Freehold’s Chelsi Bender (Mississippi State) and Delaney Boyer (Caldwell College) signed on Wednesday.

In cross country

Rumson-Fair Haven’s Michaella Irvine signed with Bucknell University and Rumson-Fair Haven’s Isabella Maita signed with Lafayette College.

In girls basketball

Freehold’s Camerin Spahn will attend NJIT.

In baseball

Freehold’s Jason Lundy will attend Fordham University and Freehold’s David Yanez will attend NJIT.

In softball

Freehold’s Gabrielle Romanowski signed with Rutgers.

In boys swimming

Central Regional’s Evan Mahoney will attend the University of South Carolina.

In boys lacrosse

Southern Regional’s Nick Jinks will attend Eastern University.
