— Sixteenth-seeded Show Low found a way to break Fort Defiance Window Rock’s pressure defense and came from behind to upset the No. 1 seed 49-47 at Northern Arizona’s Walkup Skydome.

Sean Potter was 3 for 3 in the fourth quarter and his third shot tied the game at 47 with 2:46 to go in the game, and Colby Maxell scored all six points in the final frame, but his basket wih 1:19 to go in the game was the game winner.

“They embarrassed us a little in the first half of the game the way they were able to pick our pockets like they did,” Maxell said. “We had to find a way to get the ball to our big men in the last quarter.”

They did just that as 6-5 Morgan Jessop scored 10 points in the game and sophomore Potter scored 10 points to key the come-from behind win.

Window Rock led by as many as 11 points, 41-30, with 2:19 to go in the third quarter when Show Low began to chip away at the lead.

Show Low held Window Rock (27-3) to just six fourth-quarter points.

“We knew that if we took care of the ball and took advantage of our height we could beat them,” Jessop said. “They had beaten us once before by six at Chinle so we knew we could play them close. This was payback.”

Show Low (20-12) committed 11 turnovers in the first two quarters, but just three in the fourth quarter when Window Rock’s shooting went cold.

Kyler Ashley led Window Rock with 17 points but couldn’t get the ball to drop late, missing three times in the final seconds to try to tie the game.

Colton Lowley added 11 points for Window Rock.
