Isabella Oviedo made the most of a second opportunity Thursday night.
Oviedo fired a shot off a free kick that went untouched around Oakland’s wall of defenders and into the right corner of the net as goalkeeper Emma Grace Goldman watched on. It gave Siegel a 1-0 win in the District 7-AAA championship game.
The goal came moments after the Lady Stars were called for a false start.
“They all shifted to the left after the first free kick because they thought we were going to do that,” Oviedo said. “I saw a wide open shot to the right. They were all focused on that (other) side from the first kick.”
The district title is Siegel’s fifth straight. The Lady Stars outscored their District 7-AAA opponents 21-2 this season.
“They are just solid (on defense),” Oakland coach Jeff Boynton said. “They don’t make many mistakes. It’s tough to get in behind them.”
