Sizzling Frankfort Hot Dogs surprise Class 2A No. 1 Tipton

TIPTON – Brody Kirby and Nathan Wissman each scored 18 points, and blistering first-half shooting was enough to give Frankfort a 67-65 boys basketball victory over Class 2A No. 1 Tipton on Friday night.

The Hot Dogs were 11 of 13 shooting in the first quarter and 9 of 15 in the second. They needed every basket to offset a 38-point night for Saint Louis recruit Mike Crawford. Crawford also grabbed a game-high 15 rebounds for Tipton (18-2).

Dakota Isgrigg added 14 points and Christian Smith had 10 for Frankfort (15-4).

Delphi 58

Frontier 36

DELPHI – Cole Murray was 5 of 7 beyond the arc and finished with 18 points for the Oracles.

Ricky Windell added 12 points, and Blake Walters had 11 for Delphi (14-4), which won its fourth in a row.

Austin Woolley led Frontier (7-13) with 16 points, Brandon McCracken added 14.

Gary 21st Century 66

Faith Christian 51

The inability to keep the Cougars off the boards proved costly for Faith Christian, which led by nine points after the first quarter.

David Jernagan grabbed 15 rebounds and Louis Brown pulled down 10 to go with 11 points for 21st Century (9-7). Mykel Mayes had 17 points to lead the Cougars.

Wes Smeltzer scored a game-high 20 points for Faith Christian (3-16), which was outrebounded 46-24. Vernon Ford collected seven steals to go with his 15 points and Jay Jung had 10 points for the Eagles.

Fountain Central 74

North Vermillion 67

VEEDERSBURG – Ethan Woodrow scored 24 points on 10-of-15 shooting and Luke Davenport added 18 points for the Mustangs, who held off a late charge from the Wabash River Conference’s last-place team.

Koby Pierce added 10 points for Fountain Central (16-3, 6-1). Brayden Woodard poured in a game-high 31 points for North Vermillion (6-12, 0-6).

North White 66

West Central 51

FRANCESVILLE – A 29-point outburst from D.J. Buschman propelled the Vikings to a Midwest Conference road win.

Luke Diener finished with 13 points for North White (8-10, 3-4). Kamrein Street led West Central (4-15, 1-6) with 13 points, while Spencer Holliday added 10.

Twin Lakes 41

Rensselaer 34

RENSSELAER – Cameron Bennington’s 13 points helped the Indians past the Bombers in Hoosier Conference action.

Twin Lakes (11-8, 2-4) held on after taking a 16-8 first-quarter lead. Braden Mattocks led all scorers with 14 points for Rensselaer (7-13, 0-6).

Benton Central 59

OXFORD – Brandon Rooze scored a game-high 17 points for the Bison (6-14), who have won three straight.

Tyler Souligne added 11 points and Trevor Featherston grabbed a game-high five rebounds for Benton Central.

Jarrett Hammel had 10 points for South Newton (2-15).

North Putnam 66

Covington 58

COVINGTON – Four double-figure scorers, led by Jameson Brewer’s 17 points, allowed North Putnam (8-10) to claim a road victory.

Jordan Ahrens and Chandler Spring each had 20 points for Covington (12-6).

Tri-Central 61

JEFFERSON – Kale Morris scored 15 points for the Gophers, whose balance couldn’t quite put them over the top.

Austin Martin added 13 points, Tanner Forsythe scored 12 and Ryan Walker had 11 for Clinton Prairie (2-16).
