Heavyweight Corey Durbin and Sean Vasquez was each unbeaten in five matches Saturday for St. Joseph Central Catholic’s wrestling team at the Mark Coleman Duals.
Durbin, who is ranked third in the state in Division III, topped a Toledo Central Catholic wrestler ranked 13th in Division II 4-2.
“He has some things to work on,” Crimson Streaks coach Juni Arreola said. “He knows that. For the first match of the year, he wrestled smart.”
Vasquez competed at 145 pounds.
“He just dominated,” Arreola said. “He’s probably the hardest working kid I’ve been around. He’s non-stop. He might have had five pins.”
Sohomore Bobby Mancha (220) was 4-1 for SJCC.
“We’re excited about him,” Arreola said. “He was Corey’s understudy last season.”
Freshman Eric Fulwider (182) didn’t win a match Saturday but Arreola said he improved as the day progressed.
Toledo Central Catholic finished first Saturday.
“We only have four guys wrestling,” Arreola said. “The team’s not built for dual meets. We were aggressive.”
