Less than 24 hours after falling in a thrilling shootout finish to Fond du Lac Friday night, the St. Mary’s Springs boys hockey team bounced back with a 4-2 win over Appleton Saturday.
The Ledgers’ Sean Ahern scored three times in a 2-minute stretch. One was disallowed by a controversial call, but that just made the other two that much better in the Badgerland tournament third-place game.
Trailing 2-1 entering the third, Springs tied the game with a Conner Blanck goal at 10:35. Ahern then scored a goal that was disallowed because the net was dislodged.
“It was a good motivation,” Springs coach Ty Steffes said. “They were [unhappy], and for good reason.”
Ahern scored two more times, though, and it was a moot point.
Andrew Riehl made 19 saves for the Ledgers, and Blanck scored or assisted on all four goals – all power play scores.
