Kaitlin Crumpler just finished her senior year at Smyrna, which means a lot of changes in her life. However, as she enrolls at Trevecca in the fall, her uniform color will be one of the things that will stay the same.
Crumpler, fresh off leading Smyrna to its first state championship, will be continuing her softball career as a member of the Lady Trojans.
She was one of more than 40 participants Wednesday in the ninth annual Middle Tennessee Softball Coaches’ Association All-Star Classic at Riverdale. Players were divided into three teams and there were three games.
This time the second baseman was putting her Smyrna purple on just for fun. But the previous time in the Class AAA championship, she was out to prove something. Smyrna, the doormat of District 7-AAA, had not been to the state championship since it was runner-up in 1980.
“My sophomore year we were left off the final district (power) rankings,” said Crumpler, who was 0-for-5 as her Red team split its games. “All of those people who said we couldn’t … we just kind of got to show them.
“In high school, we were all about building the program. Going to Trevecca I have the experience of knowing that (you have) to keep building and success will come.”
The Blue team won both its games, 6-4 over Red and 4-1 over White.
The Blue’s Crystal Bryant from Upperman went 2-for-3 and drove in two runs against the Red. Lincoln County’s Baylee Hammons and Wilson Central’s Lauren Stavinoga each knocked in a run for the Blue vs. the White.
The Red beat the White 6-3 as Ravenwood’s Madison Zoeller went 3-for-4 and knocked in three runs, including a two-run homer.
Mt. Juliet’s Lauren Woodard went 4-for-7 combined for the Red with two RBIs.
After the game the team that will play a team from Kentucky on June 26 at MTSU was announced:
Lauren Woodard, Mt. Juliet; Hayley Newman, Sycamore; Taylor Boyett, Lincoln Co.; Makenzie Childress, Loretto; Madison Zoeller, Ravenwood; Aubrey Crowell, Oakland; Crystal Bryant, Upperman; Jessica Twaddle, Independence; Austyn Whaley, Marshall Co.; Lindsey Munn, Hendersonville; Teonickia Baugh, LaVergne; Lauren Payne, Mt. Juliet; Allie Bennett, Wilson Central; Lauren Stavinoga, Wilson Central; Brenna Wolfram, Riverdale
