GREENWOOD VILLAGE – No. 17 Fort Collins stunned the No. 1 seed of the 5A state tournament, as they beat Smoky Hill 2-1 to advance to the quarterfinals of the 5A state tournament.
Halfway through the the first half, Smoky Hill took a 1-0 lead over the Lambkins after Colton Ladyga scored on a header off a corner kick.
Just under two minutes later, Fort Collins would tie the game on a header by Keaton Hay, which also came off a corner kick.
With just under 13 minutes remaining in the game, the Lambkins would strike again on a free kick, as Coleman Lowdermilk crossed the ball right in front of the net and found Kay, who elevated over a defender to head in the game winning goal and his second of the night.
Fort Collins will now face No. 9 Boulder in the quarterfinals on Nov. 2.
