Soccer roundup: Huskies' record up to 5-0-1 with 2-1 victory

Ryan Pushong scored in the 32nd minute of the second half on an assist from Bo Garcia as the visiting Highland High School boys soccer team improved to 5-0-1 with a 2-1 win over New Paltz on Tuesday.

Sam Weinman opened the scoring in the first half for New Paltz (2-5), but Highland’s Jimmy Flores tied the score before halftime.

Greg Miller made five saves for Highland. Will Kay made six saves for New Paltz.

Arlington 5, Hendrick Hudson 0 — After scoring the only goal of the first half, Chris Shea added an assist and another score during the second half as the host Admirals improved to 5-0.

Arlington, the defending state Class AA champion, has not surrendered a goal this season.

Haldane 4, Pawling 0 — Aidan Draper scored two second-half goals as the host Blue Devils shut out the Tigers.

Trevor Van Brunt and Jack McCann also scored for Haldane (4-3). Blue Devils goalkeeper Peter Hoffman made five saves for his third shutout of the season. He was filling in for Garrett Quigley, who had appendicitis.

Marlboro 2, Saugerties 1 — Bryan Reyes netted the game winner in the second overtime for visiting Marlboro in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League match.

Danny Garcia scored in regulation, and Jason Bruno assisted on the game winner for the Iron Dukes (2-3).

Rhinebeck 5, Millbrook 0 — Seth McClenahan scored twice, and Ian Katomski, Ryan Euell and Nick Hoynes each had one goal for visiting Rhinebeck in the MHAL match.

Goaltender Justin Simmons made 13 saves for Millbrook.

Spackenkill 2, Onteora 1 — Sean Kaufman scored twice on penalty kicks in the second half for host Spackenkill in the MHAL match.

John Jay 1, Mahopac 0 — Steve Turi scored in the sixth minute of the second overtime to lead host John Jay in the ninth annual James Caswell Memorial Soccer Game late Monday.

James Caswell, a 2001 graduate of John Jay, was a member of John Jay’s 2000 state championship team. Caswell died in a motorcycle accident in the summer of 2005.

Girls soccer

Taylor Lewis and Jaimee Kennett each scored a goal as Pine Plains defeated Webutuck 2-0.

Tia Fumasoli assisted on Lewis’ goal.

Beacon 5, Putnam Valley 2 — Le-Ann Dyson scored two goals for visiting Beacon (1-4).

John Jay 3, Ossining 0 — Kelly Lewis scored 17 minutes into the game for what would prove to be the winning goal as Wiccopee’s Patriots improved to 4-2 late Monday.

Nicole Cavallo and Corinne Burns each contributed insurance goals in the second half, and Jessica Fricker had the assist on both.

Red Hook 5, Franklin D. Roosevelt 1 — Isabelle LaBarbera netted a hat trick, and Alexa Franceschi and Shannon Berg each had one goal for visiting Red Hook late Monday.

Makayla Tompkins scored for Roosevelt (1-4).

Rye 2, Arlington 1 — Haleigh Schanz scored in the 38th minute of the second half with an assist from Erica Allen for host Arlington late Monday.

Sam Campos made seven saves for the Admirals (5-2-1).

Our Lady of Lourdes 6, Poughkeepsie 0 — Kristen Ryan scored twice, and Meghan Riccardi, Katina Kozlowski, Katie Koziol and Mary Riley each had one goal for host Lourdes.

Saugerties 2, Marlboro 0 – Torri Sperl scored both goals for the Sawyers late Monday as, Saugerties to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the Mid-Hudson Athletic League.

Michelle Nowak made nine saves for the Iron Dukes, who fell to 2-2 overall and in MHAL play.
