Down by a run and just three outs from a loss, the John Jay High School softball team scored eight runs in the top of the seventh inning, leading the visitors from Wiccopee to a 14-7 win over Beacon.
“They got their timing down on our pitcher, and they were finding the holes and catching the gaps,” said Bulldogs head coach Brian Antalek, explaining the Patriots’ big inning.
Part of that seventh-inning rally was a home run from Tateum Valentine, which capped a 4-for-5 day that included two doubles.
“The home run from Valentine was the play that put them over the top,” said Antalek, whose Bulldogs (0-4) led after 7-6 six innings.
Gabby Bracchi was 4 for 4 for the Patriots.
Leah Giavatto, Kristen Yanarella and Morgan Flamholtz each had two hits for Beacon, which scored six runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Beacon hosts Mahopac for an 11 a.m. first pitch Saturday.
