Roy C. Ketcham High School defeated John Jay, 4-3, on Thursday at Hopewell Recreation Center in Hopewell Junction, eking out two runs in the final two innings.
Trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning, Ketcham got the score to within one run as Victoria Pippa and Emma Savas drew bases-loaded walks.
Ketcham tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning as Taylor Travis doubled and scored on an error and a bloop hit to left by Andrea Bombace scored Casey Herzog. John Jay coach Bonnie Schilling said left fielder Taylor Luzzi caught a Pippa liner and threw a runner out at second base for a double play.
“Ketcham was able to put certain things together,” Schilling said. “We had some walks and errors and when you have no places to put people on, you can’t walk them.”
Vicky Lattanzio struck out six and walked three over seven innings for John Jay (12-4). Herzog struck out five and walked two for Ketcham (16-3).
