Softball roundup: Bronson wins D-3 district crown


Bronson’s pitchers got the job done in the circle, and the Vikings’ softball team earned an MHSAA Division 3 district championship at Constantine on Saturday.

Bronson (32-4) defeated Quincy 13-0 in the semifinals, then downed Constantine 5-2 in the title showdown. The Vikings thus advanced to next week’s regionals at Centreville.

Against Quincy, Bronson hurler Lindsey Sikorski tossed a five-inning no-hitter, allowing only one walk while striking out eight. At the plate, Allie Smith had two singles and four RBI; Kinslea Blouin had two singles, three RBI and a stolen base; Lauren Carey had two singles and an RBI; Sikorski had two singles and two stolen bases; Martiza Hernandez and Liz Baker had a single and an RBI apiece; and Kelsey Scheenks had a single and three stolen bases.

In the championship against Constantine, hurler Skyler Sobeski went the seven-inning distance with nine strikeouts; Scheenks had a single and a triple; Baker and Sobeski had a single and an RBI apiece; Cary and Blouin had a single and a stolen base each; and Kelsey Robinson had a single.


At Lakeview: The host Spartans lost 9-4 to Jackson in the semifinals, and Jackson went on to defeat Grand Ledge 7-3 for the title. Grand Ledge had a semifinal bye, as Battle Creek Central did not compete. For Lakeview (16-15) against Jackson, Kayla Callaway was the losing hurler, Miranda Frye had a double and three RBI, Taylor Gailhouse had a single and an RBI, and Meredith Johnson had a double.


At Coldwater: The host Cardinals made it two district titles in the past three seasons as Coldwater topped Vicksburg 5-3 in the opener and then beat Three Rivers 12-4 in the championship game. The Cardinals (16-14) advanced to next week’s regional at Stevensville-Lakeshore. In the title game, Kattie Ness was the winning pitcher ad also had a triple, a single and three RBI with the bat. Also, Michaela Gillette had a double and two singles, and Payton Watson had three singles. In the win over Vicksburg, Jessica Becks got the circle triumph and had two doubles and two RBI at the plate. Also, Gillette had two singles, and Kendall Galloway had a single.

At Allegan: Gull Lake beat Plainwell 11-0 in the semifinals, then won the district with a 9-5 victory over Otsego. In the title game for the Blue Devils (22-11), Courtney Senkewitz had 15 strikeouts in her seven-inning mound performance; and Christina Avery, Abbey Watson and Madison Owen all had two hits and two RBI.


At Parchment: Galesburg-Augusta beat Schoolcraft 4-2 in the semifinals, but bowed out with a 3-1 loss to Parchment in the title game. Against Schoolcraft, Chloe Ostlund had seven strikeouts over seven innings, and had two hits at the plate. Also, Holly DeLeon had two hits and two RBI; Alex McDaniel and Estee Ostlund had a hit, a run and an RBI apiece; and Alexa Welch had a hit. In the title-game loss, Ostlund had five strikeouts in seven innings pitched and a hit at the plate.


At Mendon
: Host Mendon edged Colon 3-2 in the semifinals. For the Magi, Isabel Vigil had a triple and a run scored; Taylor Farmer, Kaitlyn Denney and Abygail Minor had singles; and Marissa Taylor scored a run.
