Softball roundup: Haldane's Marley Chefalo one-hits Pawling


Marley Chefalo gave up one hit in Friday’s complete-game effort, leading Haldane High School to a 10-1 victory over visiting Pawling.

“She hit her spots,” said head coach Nick Lisikatos. “She kept the ball down, and her teammates played really good defense.”

A freshman, Chefalo picked up her first shutout of the season at Putnam Valley on Thursday, and Lisikatos said she brought momentum from that victory into Friday’s outing.

Against Pawling, Chefalo struck out six while walking just two.

Down 1-0 after three innings, Haldane scored five runs each in the fourth and fifth innings.

Eighth-grader Marisa Lisikatos added two hits to the winning effort. The Blue Devils (5-7) host Peekskill on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Allie Monteleone had two RBI as the Blue Devils won 8-0 at Putnam Valley.

Beacon 7, Albertus Magnus 3 — Leah Giavatto went 2 for 3 with two runs scored as the host Bulldogs won a semifinal at the Dawgfest Tournament.

Kristen Yanarella went 2 for 3 with two RBI. Tori Williams went 1 for 2 with two RBI.

Beacon will face Tappan Zee in today’s 5 p.m. final at Beacon. Tappan Zee defeated Arlington B, 6-0, in Friday’s other semifinal. Kayla Andrews scattered five hits in six innings for Arlington B. Jillian Cirrito and Shannon Jasiel contributed the lone hits for the Admirals.

Arlington B (7-5) will face Albertus Magnus in today’s 3 p.m. consolation game.

“I’m very proud of them,” Beacon coach Brian Antalek said. “We’ve been having a rough season and we haven’t given up all year.”

Beacon broke open a 2-2 game by scoring five runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by doubles by Williams and Morgan Flamholtz.

Poughkeepsie 16, Peekskill 0 — Tori Davies tossed a one-hit shutout, striking out seven and walking none over six innings as the host Pioneers won at Spratt Park.

Kyzhea Singleton went 3 for 3 with a home run, a triple and four RBI for Poughkeepsie (11-3).

Kiara Pittman went 3 for 4 with a home run and five RBI.

Railyna West went 3 for 3.

Poughkeepsie will host Our Lady of Lourdes at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday at Poughkeepsie High School.

Carmel 2, Roy C. Ketcham 1 — The Rams capitalized on a dropped ball in the outfield in the bottom of the 13th inning to score the winning run.

Pitcher Casey Herzog threw all 13 innings for the visiting Indians (13-2), striking out 10 and giving up seven hits.

Ketcham scored its run on an RBI triple by Emma Savas in the top of the fourth.

Two innings later, Carmel tied the game with a home run.

Catcher Taylor Travis went 2 for 6 for the Indians, who had five hits.

Ketcham hosts Arlington on Monday.

New Paltz 12, Saugerties 7— Carly Giancola, Lea Jones and Annalise Connolly each had three hits as the visiting Huguenots defeated the Sawyers late Thursday.

Winning pitcher Ally Pannuto had a double and three RBI for New Paltz. She struck out four and walked none.

Pine Plains 6, Ellenville 4 — The Bombers scored four runs in the top of the second to win late Thursday.

Winning pitcher Anna Lonczak (3-4) hit a pair of triples, and catcher Emma Boucher had a triple. Kaitlin Croghan had a double.

Pine Plains will host Onteora on Thursday.
