Softball roundup: Jessica Newberry leads Arlington with arm and bat

At the plate and in the circle, Jessica Newberry ensured her Arlington High School softball team prevailed Monday.

Whether it was her two home runs or her five innings of one-run ball, Newberry helped the Admirals beat visiting Walter Panas, 13-6, in Freedom Plains.

Eight of Arlington’s dozen base hits went for extra bases, as the Admirals scored three runs each in the first, second and fourth innings, adding four insurance runs in the fifth. Arlington (3-1) travels to Lakeland on Wednesday.

John Jay 6, John Jay-Cross River 0 — Winning pitcher Vicky Lattanzio struck out 15 batters while allowing two hits and two walks, as her Wiccopee-based Patriots improved to 3-0.

Lattanzio helped her effort with a double, and Tateum Valentine’s home run accounted for the Patriots’ other extra-base hit.

Jo Lei Buonanno had a two-run single in the second inning for John Jay.

The visitors left Wiccopee 4-2. The Patriots travel to Mahopac on Wednesday.

Pine Plains 13, Dover 3 — Anna Lonczak and Monica Smith each turned in a pair of base hits for the Bombers, who improved to 1-4.

Julianne Browne doubled twice for the visiting Dragons.

The Bombers scored 11 runs over their final three innings, including a seven-run fifth frame.

Pine Plains travels to Millbrook on Wednesday.

Roy C. Ketcham 4, Mahopac 1 — Carissa Dellavechia contributed a pair of doubles toward the winning cause, helping Wappingers Falls’ Indians improve to 6-0.

Taylor Travis, Marlene Cuevas and Emma Savas also added two hits for Ketcham, which hosts Hendrick Hudson on Wednesday.

Our Lady of Lourdes 9, Putnam Valley 1 — The Warriors scored four in the bottom of the first and eased to the win.

Lourdes starter Meghan Meyers (4-1) struck out six and allowed four hits for the win.

Taylor Satori drove in three Lourdes runs, while Michaela Casey (3 for 3) and Faith Drouin each drove in one. Deanna Jacobs had a triple and Rebecca Sparks had a double.

Poughkeepsie 2, John F. Kennedy Catholic 1 — The Pioneers won on an error in the bottom of the seventh, improving to 4-2.

Kyzhea Singleton was 2 for 4 for Poughkepsie.
