The Solon softball team pounded West Branch 14-1 in six innings in the second game of the Creek Classic on Friday night in Coralville.
Holly Hinkel had two strikeouts and allowed three hits in four innings. McKenna Miller pitched the last two innings and recorded two strikeouts.
Sydney Lawson hit 3-for-4 with a triple and three RBIs.
Solon coach Jim White attributed the win to aggressive base running.
The Spartans (5-0) will travel to Mount Vernon for a 6 p.m. game on Wednesday.

Sophomore pitcher Katie Springer picked up the win with eight strikeouts while allowing five hits.
Cheyanne Adamson and Kassie Vazquez each hit 2-for-3 and recorded one RBI apiece. Paige Wieland batted 2-for-4 with an RBI.
“I’m really proud of the girls. It’s been a long week with us playing five games plus school work,” Highland coach Carrie Wieland said. “We are really doing great on base and putting the ball into play,”
Highland (4-0) will travel to Lone Tree for a 7:30 p.m. first pitch Tuesday.
