Vikolia Meade wanted nothing more than to win a state volleyball title this year, especially after making it to the state championship match last year.
The senior middle hitter made it back to the Class 4A championship match with Solon this season, but the Spartans lost to Harlan 3-1 on Nov. 15 in Cedar Rapids.
“I think that we had a wonderful season,” Meade said. “We grew a lot as a team and individually. … Yes, it’s frustrating. We were up each time and let it slip away.”
Meade finished the season with 161 kills and .337 kill efficiency and led the Spartans with 67 total blocks.
“I think I definitely improved a lot,” she said. “In club season I’ve been working, going 100 percent.”
Meade has already started club season this winter with the Iowa Rockets, and she signed just last week to play in college at Minnesota State, Mankato.
“The hardest part was deciding whether I wanted to play in college,” she said. “They were the first people to contact me, but I really liked the coaches after I met them and I liked the team. It has a very homey feel.”
