Southern Utah-bound Race Parsons got his team off to a good start with 18 points as South Sevier, the two-time defending champions, rolled to a 56-32 victory over North Summit in the opening round of the 2A boys state playoffs Thursday at the Centrum.
South Sevier (20-2) steadily built its margin to 27-15 at the half and cruised from there, hitting nine 3-pointers along the way. Austin Clark added 14 points and Patrick Baker chipped in 10.
Cameron Smith led the Braves with 10 points in the loss.
WASATCH ACADEMY 75, SUMMIT ACADEMY 42: The Tigers got 19 points from Cody John and 13 from Geno Luzcando to roll over the Bears and improve to 23-1 on the season.
Wasatch Academy led 39-10 at the half. They will face South Sevier in today’s second semifinal at 9:10 p.m.
Rashaan Griffin had 12 points in the loss for Summit Academy.
GUNNISON 59, SOUTH SUMMIT 54: The Bulldogs had foul-shooting issues in the second half, but held off the Wildcats to advance to the semifinals with their fifth straight win.
Colby Caldwell led Gunnison with 20 points and Kaz Mogle added 12. The pair drained all of the Bulldogs’ six 3-pointers (three apiece).
EMERY 51, WATERFORD 33: The Spartans squashed the Ravens — who upset Region 13 champion Enterprise in the opening round — to advance.
Bailey Faimalo led Emery with 13 points, and the Spartans outscored Waterford 13-3 in the second quarter to break the game open. They’ll play Gunnison in the first semifinal at 7:30 p.m. at the Centrum.
Mufi Hunt had 13 points for Waterford in the loss.
