Southern blanks Toms River North in boys lacrosse state tourney

Dylan Jinks had four goals and four assists, Al Manzo had three goals, and Brendan Mullen had two goals and four assists as the top-seeded Southern Regional boys lacrosse team defeated No. 16 seed Toms River North, 15-0, in an NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV first-round game Saturday.

For the Rams (15-1), Tyler Lipositz added two goals and two assists, Sean Stewart added two goals, Shawn McManus had one goal and one assist, and Brendan LeFanto made 10 saves for his first career shutout.

Kevin Krysiewicz made 12 saves for the Mariners (4-11).

IN OTHER NJSIAA FIRST-ROUND GAMES:

RUMSON-FH 15, DELRAN 1: Michael Clarke scored two of his three goals in the first quarter and had one of his two assists in the first quarter as the top-seeded Bulldogs toppled the No. 16 seed Bears (6-11) in a South Group I game.

Sam Atkinson added three goals with two coming in the second half and Christian Mindnich had two goals and two assists.

SHORE 12, A.L. JOHNSON 5: Luke Dwyer scored five goals with two coming in the fourth quarter and Jessse Phalanukorn had four goals and scored the 100th goal of his career as the No. 8 Blue Devils (13-4) defeated the No. 9 Crusaders.

Phalanukorn now has 101 career goals. Goalie Andrew Johnsen made 18 saves as the Blue Devils won their first NJSIAA tournament game in school history.

COLTS NECK 18, LACEY 6: Rob Halmi scored four of his five goals in the first half as the No. 7 seed Cougars (12-6) defeated the No. 10 seed Lions (9-10) in a South Group III game.

John Miller added four goals with two coming in the third quarter.

Lacey’s Matt Opacity had three goals and Joe Long had two goals.

EGG HARBOR 6, HOWELL 5: Howell’s Alec Dambach (one goal, two assists) tied the game with 2:20 left on an unassisted goal, but Egg Harbor’s Sal Avellino scored the game-winning goal for the No. 8 Eagles (14-5) with 44 seconds left from a pass by Nick Lacovara in a South Group IV game

Howell’s Jake Sherman, Mark Buannic, Nick Paolillo and Zach Ornstein all scored a goal. Tyler Ornstein made 16 saves for the No. 9 Rebels (11-8).

ALLENTOWN 10, OCEAN 4: Michael Thorn had two goals for the No. 14 Spartans (4-12) in a loss to the No. 3 Redbirds (14-4) in South Group II game. Allentown’s Steffan Pappes scored four goals.

HADDONFIELD 10, HOLMDEL 3: Dillon Cort had two goals, Justin Russo had one goal and John Tascione made eight saves as the No. 6 Hornets (9-6) fell to the No. 11 Bulldawgs (7-11) in a South Group 1 game.

IN GIRLS LACROSSE:

RB CATHOLIC 22, MANCHESTER 4: Amanda Casten scored four of her six goals in the first half and Grace Fallon added all four of her goals in the first half as the No. 2 seed Caseys (19-2) defeated the No. 15 seed Hawks (7-13) in a South Group II first-round game.

Casten finished with three assists, Fallon had four assists, Maeve Cowley added three goals and four assists, and Emily Schlissler had three goals and one assist for the Caseys.

Manchester’s Kelli Serpi and Sydney Kacek each finished with two goals.

RUMSON-FH 17, MIDDLE TWP. 1: Abigael Donohue (three goals), Mary Scarrone (two goals, one assist) and Bridget Curran (two goals, two assists) each scored two goals in the first half as the No. 3 Bulldogs (15-5) toppled the No. 14 Panthers.
