Brendan Mullen scored six goals and Shawn McManus added two goals as No. 1 seed and host Southern defeated No. 5 seed Lenape, 11-7, on Thursday in a NJSIAA South Group IV boys lacrosse semifinal.
The win advanced Southern to the sectional final Saturday against Monroe.
Tyler Lipositz and Nick Jinks each had three assists for the Rams (17-1).
Southern led 3-0 after one quarter and 5-3 at halftime before pulling away to an 11-4 lead after three quarters with a 6-1 showing in the third.
RUMSON-FH 9, WEST DEPTFORD 4: Colin Shea had four goals and assisted on another and Michael Clarke had a goal and an assist as the No. 1 seed Bulldogs (17-7) defeated the No. 4 seed Eagles (16-6) in a South Group I semifinal.
Rumson will host the winner of today’s game between Bernards and Haddonfield on Saturday in the sectional final.
POINT BEACH 2, BURLINGTON CITY 1: Freshman John VanShoick’s two-run single in the bottom of the seventh gave the No. 5 seed Garnet Gulls (12-9) the win over the No. 13 seed Blue Devils in a NJSIAA Central Group I quarterfinal.
Bobby Parlow pitched a complete-game six-hitter to improve to 6-4.
Pete Perez threw a four-hitter for Burlington City. He struck out 12.
BRICK MEM. 9, TR NORTH 4: Kyle Cala went 3-for-4 with two RBI and scored three runs, Mike Martone went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Gerry Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with two RBI as the Mustangs (13-12, 7-7) defeated the Mariners (18-6, 8-6) in a Class A South game and snapped Toms River North’s nine-game winning streak.
Junior left-hander Will Kirchoff pitched the first five innings to pick up his first varsity win. He struck out three, walked none and allowed four runs. Corey Zytko pitched two hitless innings to close it out.
Karl Blum had a two-run homer in the first for Toms River North.
IN BOYS VOLLEYBALL:
SOUTHERN 2, KINGSWAY 0: The top-seeded Rams (32-4) advanced to the NJSIAA South semifinals with a win over the No. 8 Dragons (17-10) in the quarterfinals.
The Rams will host Cherry Hill East, a 2-0 winner over Cherry Hill West, 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. The 14th-year Rams are 32-10 all-time in state tournament play, including 25-0 at home.
For Southern, Luke King handed out 16 assists. Mike Gesicki added seven kills and three blocks. Brandon Lee contributed eight kills. Kyle Ficken notched four kills.
Also contributing were Jake Necamp (10 digs), Tommy Lynch (two aces, two digs) and Adriel Dunwoody (two blocks).
WILLIAMSTOWN 2, TR SOUTH 1: The sixth-seeded Indians (18-6) saw their season end with a loss to the No. 3 Braves (17-6) in the South quarterfinals.
Joe Esposito paced the Indians with 24 assists and three kills. Scott Stueber added eight kills and two blocks. Brian Sutera contributed eight kills and two digs. Tyler Lee and Justin Voelker added four digs apiece. Alex Purpuro added two kills and four blocks.
