Logan Sheehan, despite being hampered by an ankle injury, was huge on defense in the fourth quarter to help the host Southern football team preserve a 14-7 win over Central on Thursday in a nondivisional game.

Sheehan, a defensive back, batted down a pass on fourth-and-goal from the Rams’ 3 with 27 seconds left to stop a long Central drive.

Earlier in the fourth quarter, Sheehan, who is also Southern’s quarterback, but played just defense, forced and recovered a fumble.

Rams senior running back Grant Bissey scored on runs of 2 yards in the first quarter and 1 yard in the second quarter, sandwiched around a 57-yard Marquis Drumright to Jordan Hardy touchdown pass for Central (5-5).

Bissey, had 132 yards on 39 carries.

Southern (5-5) played without senior receiver Mike Gesicki (wrist).
