Special teams key for Braves


The special teams were special on Friday night for visiting Manalapan in its 42-7 win over East Brunswick in a nonconference game.

The Braves (5-0), ranked No. 2 in the Asbury Park Press Top 10, received an 80-yard kickoff return for a TD by junior Dan Debner and a 50-yard punt return for a TD by junior John Chenung. Those TDs enabled Manalapan to increase a 14-7 lead to 28-7 in the second quarter.

Cheung has had two kickoff returns for TDs in the last three weeks.

Senior fullback Nelson Rivera had a 1-yard TD run, senior running back Jake McCord had a 5-yard TD run. Senior tailback Tyler Leonetti had a 6-yard TD run.

RB CATHOLIC 62, HOLMDEL 10: Senior running back Larry Redaelli rushed for 201 yards and three TDs on just 10 carries as the No. 1 Caseys (6-0, 4-0) rolled to a 62-10 win over the Hornets (1-5, 0-3) in a Class A Central game and extended their winning streak against Shore Conference opponents to 30.

Redaelli scored on runs of 58, 52 and 2 yards.

Senior running back Bruno Lins, junior receiver John Portela and sophomore running back Mike Wilen all h scored their first varsity TDs. Lins and Wilen scored on running plays and Portela scored on a pass from senior quarterback Pat Toomey.

Sophomore quarterback Eddie Hahn also ran for a TD for the Caseys, who will have a bye next week before hosting Middletown South on Nov. 1.

Red Bank Catholic has outscored its opposition 295-33.
