Regional Final: Cedarburg 4, Springs 3
The season came to a bitter end for the St. Mary’s Springs hockey team Friday night, as the Ledgers third-period rally came up short in a 4-3 loss to Cedarburg in regional final action at Ozaukee Ice Center.
With their goalie pulled, the Ledgers put two shots on goal in the final seconds in a scrum in front of the net, but couldn’t get one through to send the game into overtime.
“It was a little bit too late,” Springs coach Ty Steffes said. “We got some momentum going. We definitely ran out of time.”
Sophomore Anthony Grebe had all three goals for Springs, two of them on assists from sophomore Conner Blanck.
It was a 1-1 game after two periods before the Bulldogs (14-9-2) scored twice to go up 3-1 midway through the third. The teams traded goals and then Grebe’s third goal came with 1:23 left to play.
The Ledgers end the season with a 13-8-2 record.
