Two members of Northeast Ohio’s high school hoops community returned home early Monday morning with gold medals around their necks.

St. Edward High School head coach Eric Flannery and St. Vincent-St. Mary High School rising sophomore VJ King were members of the 2013 USA Basketball Men’s U16 National Team that defeated Argentina 94-48 on Saturday night in the title game of the FIBA Americas U16 Championship in Maldonado, Uruguay.

King recorded seven points, four rebounds and two assists in 16 minutes of playing time in the championship game.

Flannery served as one of the squad’s two assistant coaches.

The team finished the five-day tournament with a perfect 5-0 record.
