KENMORE, N.Y.-St. Joe’s opened its season with an impressive 20-14 win over national powerhouse St. Anthony’s. St. Anthony’s has lost only 11 games in the last ten years.
St. Anthony’s was ranked second in New York State behind only Canisius coming into Saturday’s game.
Senior Nigel Davis had a huge game on both sides of the ball for the Marauders. Davis carried 27 times for 218 yards and scored all three of St. Joe’s touchdowns. Davis had touchdown runs of nine, 75 and five yards. He also caught the two point conversion on the Marauders final touchdown meaning he accounted for all 20 of St. Joe’s points. Defensively Davis had six tackles including one for a loss and he had a sack.
St. Joe’s trailed for just one play in the entire game. Right after St. Anthony’s scored to take the lead, Davis broke his 75 yard touchdown run.
A pair of senior linebackers had big days for St. Joe’s. Rod Payne had nine tackles and an interception. Anthony Castellani had numbers identical to Payne’s, nine tackles and an interception.
St. Joe’s is at Clarence next Saturday night. Kickoff is scheduled for 7-pm.
