Fans of theatrical coaches firing up their teams for some quality basketball missed a beauty on Friday night in the winner’s bracket semifinal of the Mary Anne Lawler Invitational at Northwood High School.

Bossier coach Jeremiah Williams and St. Thomas More coach Danny Broussard put on a show, while their players were strutting their stuff on the court. UTEP-signee and Nike Elite player Trey Touchet of STM pumped in 38 points, including 20 in the fourth quarter, to lead the Cougars to a 70-63 win.

“That was two really good defensive teams going at it and we battled all night long,” Broussard said. “We had a good battle with them in the semifinals up here last year. This is a good win for us and a good confidence builder.”

The Bearkats led virtually the entire game until Touchet tied it with 1:48 to play. A steal and layup by Andrew Stoma seconds later gave the Cougars (3-1) a lead they wouldn’t lose. Touchet, who played the entire game, dropped in 18 of 21 free throws.

“I was using up a lot of energy out there, because I couldn’t take a break,” Touchet said. “Bossier doesn’t allow that with their defense. They are in your face all the time. But we worked hard in the off season and it’s paying dividends.”

Bossier’s Devonte Hall scored 27 points to lead his team, while dropping in 9-of-12 freebies, and Jericho Moss added 16 points.

North Caddo 63, Mansfield 51: In a consolation game at Northwood, the Rebels got 26 points from Johntavian Brooks and 12 from Robert Williams to get past the Wolverines.

Mansfield pulled within 51-50 midway through the fourth quarter, but the Rebels got consecutive buckets from Guevara Nation, Williams and Cherrod Hill to push the lead back to six points. A 3-pointer from Brooks with 1:32 left sealed the deal. Corey Anderson led Mansfield with 16 points.

Mansfield 58, Bossier 45: Ashlyn Jacobs poured in 15 points to send Mansfield into the finals of the Bossier Lady Kats Invitational with a 58-45 win over the host Lady Kats.

The Lady Wolverines led by just two points at the break, but out-scored Bossier 17-6 in the third quarter to take charge. Tiffany Lynn scored 13 for Bossier.

Huntington 53, Woodlawn 44: With Caitlin Jenkins dropping in 19 points and Tanisha Briggs added 16 to lead the Lady Raiders to the win in the Bossier tourney. Amber Cook scored 19 and Haggar Caldwell 10 for the Lady Knights.

Loyola 55, St. Joseph’s 50: The Lady Flyers continued their strong play behind 18 points from Alex Williams and 14 from Amber Smith at the St. Michaels’ Tournament. Loyola moves to 7-1 on the season.
