State baseball championships start fast at Jet Blue Park in Fort Myers

Deltona Trinity Christian senior pitcher Dustin Hagy kicked off the FHSAA state baseball championships at JetBlue Park with a sensational all-around performance in a Class 2A state semifinal game today.
Hagy tossed six shutout innings and allowed just three hits while striking out five in Trinity Christian’s 8-0 victory over Master’s Academy of Vero Beach. He also doubled twice and finished with three RBI at the plate for the Eagles.
Trinity Christian will look to claim its second consecutive Class 2A state championship Thursday at 7:35 p.m.
“Overall, I am pretty pleased with how the game went,” Trinity Christian coach Bryan Maples said. “Dustin was good. He has battled some adversity throughout the year. (He) settled in and commanded pitches.”
Trinity Christian (17-10) took advantage of four second inning errors by the Patriots (9-13) to claim a 4-0 lead. It eventually stretched that lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning and 8-0 in the sixth after two more errors by Master’s Academy.
The Patriots finished the game with seven errors while the Eagles committed none.
“Whenever you get out in front like that and they make a couple errors they get down on themselves,” Hagy said. “You just keep putting it to them.”
