KASSON-MANTORVILLE 4, HERMANTOWN 1

Joey Hyde tossed a six-hitter to improve to 8-2, leading No. 5 Kasson-Mantorville (23-6) over No. 4 Hermantown (20-4) at Putz.

Hyde, a senior right-hander, struck out five and walked one. Center fielder and lead-off hitter Riley Donovan was 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and an RBI and shortstop and No. 3 hitter Jayden Prigge was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI for the KoMets.

Donovan is headed to South Dakota State on a football scholarship and is today’s likely starter. He’s 7-1 with a 3.15 ERA. The KoMets also have senior right-hander Charlie Meyer, who is 2-2 with a 2.37 ERA in 44 13 innings.

“It’s definitely a big challenge for us facing Cathedral,” Kasson-Mantorville head coach Broc Threinen said. “Our last time here in 2011, we saw them, so we know a little about them.

“They’re a heck of a program.”

Starting pitcher Kevin Folman, a senior right-hander headed to North Dakota State, was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Hermantown.

Hermantown (20-4) plays Luverne (20-5) at 10 a.m. today at Joe Faber Field in the consolation bracket.

WATERTOWN-MAYER 1, MINNEHAHA ACADEMY 0

Junior right-hander Michael Herd out-dueled senior left-hander John Pryor as Watertown-Mayer (17-8) surprised third-seeded Minnehaha Academy (17-6).

Herd struck out three, walked three and allowed two hits. Pryor, headed to Division I David Lipscomb in Tennessee, struck out 14, walked two and allowed one hit and one unearned run.

Minnehaha Academy is one of two teams to beat Cathedral this season. Little Fall is the other.

Watertown-Mayer plays Perham in the semifinals at 2:30 p.m. today at Dick Putz Field. Minnehaha plays Delano in the consolation semifinals at 12:30 p.m. today at Joe Faber Field.

PERHAM 3, DELANO 1

Eric Brauch scattered eight hits, struck out four and walked one to lead unseeded Perham (17-5) past second-seeded Delano (17-3) at Putz.

Except for No. 1 St. Cloud Cathedral, all three higher seeded teams lost.

Brauch also was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI for the Yellowjackets, who managed four hits off Delano left-hander Zach Muckenhirn.

Muckenhirn struck out 11 and walked two.

Hunter Hart went 2-for-2 with a walk for the Tigers. Justin Oja was 2-for-3.
