State volleyball: Janesville claims first ever team state championship

CEDAR RAPIDS, Ia. — Janesville topped No.1-ranked Holy Trinity to win the school’s first state volleyball crown, 25-10, 22-25, 25-14, 25-23.
It also marks the first team championship in any sport for Janesville.
Four players had 10 or more kills, led by Anna Backstrom and Kendyl Sorge, who each had 12.
Holy Trinity’s Mikaela Foecke pounded 31 kills and was named captain of the all-tournament team. Her team finished 47-5.
Janesville finished the season at 38-4. The team played in its fourth consecutive state tournament. Seniors Destiny Christopher, Victoria Leyh, Brittney Hanson and Allison Hesse played all on four teams.
Hanson had 48 assists. Sorge also had 21 assists and Christopher had 25.
