St. Michael’s College School rallied from a 12-point, third-quarter deficit Monday to a 68-63 win over Covington (Ky.) Holmes for fifth place in the STOP-DWI Holiday Classic.
Junior guard Godwin Boahen had 19 points and five assists for the winners from Toronto, who took the lead for good when freshman forward Danilo Djuricic hit his lone 3-point goal of the game with 1:38 remaining to make it 62-59.
The Blue Raiders put it away with 6-for-6 free throw shooting down the stretch at the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena.
Nelson Kaputo added 14 points and seven assists for St. Michael’s. James “Beetle” Bolden scored 23 points for Holmes.
John Carroll School 57, Phila. MC&S 49: Kimbal MacKenzie scored 23 points for John Carroll of Bel Air, Md., in the third-place game.
John Carroll broke the final tie when MacKenzie converted two free throws with two minutes to play for a 51-49 advantage, and the Patriots’ 6-for-12 showing from the line from there proved sufficient.
Mike Tertsea had 13 points and eight rebounds for John Carroll. Terquin Mott’s 13 points topped Math, Civics & Science.
New Rochelle 61, Poly Prep 47: In the seventh-place game, Derek Dorn shot 8-for-13 from the field in a 23-point outing to led New Rochelle past its opponent from Brooklyn. Antoine Lewis added 17 points on 8-for-11 accuracy and matched Dorn’s three assists.
Kyle Goldfarb topped Poly Prep with 16 points.
Regional Division II
Greene 50, Seton CC 47: Justin Ekstrom broke the game’s final tie when his interior bucket put the Trojans ahead by 42-40 with 3½ minutes remaining.
The Saints drew within two for the final time, 49-47, when Michael Korchak successfully followed his own shot with 26 seconds remaining. Ekstrom supplied the final point on a free throw with 16 seconds left, and the Saints’ Grant Eggleston was off the mark from atop the arc in the final second.
Zach Wentlent’s 18 points paced Greene. Korchak and Cody O’Neil scored 11 apiece for Seton CC, which shot 7-for-18 from the free throw line.
