Sunday's roundup: Riverdale girls fall to No. 1 Poly

Riverdale fell 57-49 early to top-ranked Long Beach Poly in the Iolani Prep Classic championship game early Sunday morning in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Clemson signee Shelbie Davenport led Riverdale (9-2) with a game-high 23 points. Teammate Alexa Middleton, a Tennessee signee, had 16 points. Shanique Heard had six.

Poly is ranked No. 1 in the USA Today Super 25 poll. Riverdale is ranked 20th. Both of Riverdale’s losses this season are to out of state teams.

Middleton was named the Most Outstanding Player of the tournament. Davenport and Heard were named to the all-tournament team.

Poly’s Arica Carter, a Louisville signee, was named the tournament’s MVP.

BOYS

Hopkinsville, Ky. 102, La Vergne 95 2OT: Dolorean Sparks scored a team-high 27 points for the Wolverines (8-3). Marquis Johns tallied 20, Charles Sutton added 17 and Quinton Armstrong came off the bench to score 10.

La Vergne hit five 3-pointers in the game. Johns had three and Sparks had the other two.
