AMHERST, N.Y.-Rain and wind did not stop undefeated Sweet Home from beating McKinley 58-22. With the win Sweet Home has now won 67 straight games against Section 6 opponents.
McKinley opened the scoring on the opening kickoff. Tyrell Wilson picked the ball up at the 19 yard line and raced 81 yards into the end zone. Sweet Home scored the next two touchdowns to take a 14-8 lead before the Macks struck again. Kevin Torrillo hit Brandon Smiley for an 11 yard touchdown and Jordan Evert ran eight yards for a touchdown before McKinley scored again. Jamar Rutledge hit Mike Benton for a 31 yard touchdown as time expired in the first quarter. After that it was pretty much all Sweet Home. By halftime the Panthers had built a 33-16 lead.
Sweet Home’s quarterback Kevin Torrillo was 10-13 for 97 yards and three touchdowns. Running back Jordan Evert ran for 109 yards on 20 carries and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Brandon Smiley had two touchdowns and an interception on defense.
Sweet Home head coach John Faller told channel 2 sports, “Glad to see the kids go 7-0 in the regular season. It’s going to be a three game season to get to the Ralph and state championship. We play Kenmore East on Saturday at home and we will see how far the team goes, and how the seniors cement their legacy.”
Sweet Home finishes the regular season unbeaten. McKinley drops to 6-1 on the year.
Sweet Home plays Kenmore East at home next Saturday. Kickoff is scheduled for 2-pm. Sweet Home beat the Bulldogs last Saturday 34-6.
