Elijah Thomas is the No. 6 overall prospect in the ESPN 25 and anchors the paint for Prime Prep Academy (Dallas), one of the country’s most elite teams. He’s averaged 15 points, 10 rebounds and four assists this season and his dominance has everyone from Indiana to Duke to Kentucky, and many more, all giving chase. He’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

What’s up, what’s up y’all!

It’s your boy Eli here and I’ve read a lot of these blogs before so I’m pretty excited to be starting one of my own.

I just found out today that we’re going to be in the ESPN NHSI and, of course, I was excited about that. Everybody knows that we’re a confident team and, we’re 36-0, so we feel like we’re the best team in the country. We’ll just have to prove it again down there in D.C.

I mean our mascot is Winning so we’re excited to get down there and play some of the teams that wouldn’t play us during the season. But now that we’re in this tournament, they’ve got to.

It’ll be fun.

We’re hard to matchup with because people can’t zone us because we’re too big. Then you can’t go man because we’re too skilled and quick and athletic. It’s hard man! In my opinion the other team won’t be very successful.

Of course I would love to play a couple of those teams like Findlay Prep because they’re undefeated like we are. Then they came to Dallas this season and didn’t play against us. That was kinda weird to me.

I want to play against Montverde too.

We just love competition. We love a challenge. We’ll definitely be ready.

My recruitment is pretty crazy right now.

I know I’ll leave schools off this list because there are too many to remember but some of the schools recruiting me are Indiana, Duke, Louisville, SMU, Georgetown, Illinois, N.C. State, Kentucky, LSU, Texas A&M, Ohio State and there are a lot more. This isn’t my list, I don’t have a list, these are just the ones that I’m remembering right now.

It’s crazy to me. I just take it all in right now.

I like texting the coaches and talking to them on the phone.

I still haven’t gotten used to that. It’s fun to me.

Lately, I’ve been talking to Coach Jamal (Walker) at Illinois, Coach (Orlando) Early at N.C. State, Coach (Jeff) Capel at Duke, and a bunch of other coaches. I think that’s cool to be able to talk to all of these elite coaches.

I’m really just myself when I’m talking to them. I’m still goofy on the phone with them, but I learn a lot from them too.

Like Coach Jamal told me about how it looks bad for a player to jump around to a bunch of different teams throughout his high school career. I thought about that before, but he really schooled me on why.

It made a lot of sense to me.

I’ve got to say the most interesting conversation I’ve had with a coach so far was with Coach K, most definitely. I didn’t know what to expect from him. I thought he would be more serious or something like that, but Coach K was real chill. Real cool.

We talked about Carmelo Anthony and how Melo’s my favorite player and he told me that I reminded him of Elton Brand when he was at Duke. It was just a really good conversation.

I want to take some visits here in the next month or so, but it’s gonna have to wait until after the NHSI. I don’t know where I’ll visit yet. I really want to get down there and see Georgetown though. I do know that. And Duke. I want to see all of them. But we’ll see how things go over the next few weeks. I’ll keep you guys posted on that.

Have y’all heard our Prime Prep rap?

It’s pretty hot! You guys need to check that out! It’s something that adds to our intimidation factor. It gets us hype too.

What really gets us hype is when Deion (Sanders) gives us pep-talks after practice and before games. Oh man! That will get you hyper than you’ve ever been in your life. It’ll have you ready to jump off a cliff and know nothing’s gonna happen. I know he’ll give us that pep-talk before the NHSI.

Other than that school is going great for me too.

People don’t know how tough our academics are here at Prime Prep. They really focus on academics first here for sure, and I’m doing pretty well. I’ve got a 3.7 GPA and I want to get that higher.

Off the court, I mostly just workout, but I do play video games pretty heavy too.

I’ll go ahead and tell you guys that I trash everyone that I play in NBA 2K13. Nobody’s seeing me in that game.

OK y’all, I’ve got to get back to killing my cousin in this video game so I’ll have to check y’all later.

I’ve done some research on these blogs because I don’t want mine to be wack, and I like the way my man Jahlil (Okafor) ended his so I’ll go with that for now.

Until next time…
