The Devin Booker Blog

Devin Booker is arguably the most feared marksman in the country, regardless of class. After a stellar junior season at Moss Point (Moss Point, Miss.), where he posted 30 points a game, Booker, now a senior, has college basketball giants hot on his trail. He’s narrowed it down to five: Missouri, Michigan State, Michigan, Kentucky and Florida. Booker’s agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a monthly blog.

Hey what’s up everybody!

I’m just coming back from the Elite 24 game in New York and I had a great time there!

I won the three-point contest and going in my dad asked me if I thought I was gonna win and I just told him, “This is what I do.”

It was just a great weekend. It was my first time playing in Brooklyn and on ESPN and the whole setting was just great. I think the best memory that you didn’t see on TV was going to Times Square with my boys D’Angelo (Russell), Chris (McCullough) and Goodluck (Okonoboh).

We took the limo down there and just had a ball. We stayed at the W and we all had our own rooms; no roommates. We were living like pros! It was a crazy experience. I loved it.

We didn’t win the game and I didn’t play as well as I wanted to, but it was an all star game. We were all out there to have fun and I was more happy about the experience than anything.

It was the perfect way to end the summer.

Well, I started school two weeks ago and things are going pretty well so far. We’re all just getting in the swing of things. This year I want to finish in the top 10 in my class academically and get that 4.0 GPA. I had a 3.9 last year so I really want to get it this year.

I definitely want to win states this year too; gotta get one before I leave high school!

We may be setting up an ESPN game against Malik’s (Newman) school, so hopefully we’ll get that done. I would love to play in that game. I think it would be really competitive.

Most of you have probably heard that I’ve already set my dates for my visits with my final five schools: Michigan State (Sept. 6), Kentucky (Sept. 9), Michigan (Oct. 5), Missouri (Oct. 19) and I haven’t set up my date for my Florida visit yet.

I’m really ready to take these visits!

This will be the first time that both my mom and dad will be at the school with me at the same time. I just want to get up to the schools, watch some football, hang out with the coaches, meet the fans and see how the basketball players live day-to-day.

I’m an eye-test guy. I want to see it for myself so I’m just going in to each visit with an open mind and just focused on having a good time.

I would like to decide before the November signing period, but if I’m not ready I’m not gonna force myself.

I’ve definitely been having some conversations with my boy Tyler Ulis about maybe playing together in college. We’ve known each other for a long time and we both would love to team-up in college.

He’s the kind of point guard that you definitely want to play with because he just finds you in the perfect situations and in the perfect way. It’s not a definite package deal, but we’ve probably talked about playing together around 10 times I’d say. We text back and forth a lot.

We’ll see how that goes.

OK guys I’m gonna get ready to roll out, but I definitely appreciate you reading my blog.

I’ll be back after my first two visits to Michigan State and Kentucky to let you guys know all about it.

Take care!
