St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) combo guard Isaiah Briscoe was a last-second jump shot away from leading the Gray Bees to a national title in April, and the sting from that loss has made him even more focused on dominating than usual. That’s led to a scoring barrage this AAU season that’s got him in a close race for the Nike Elite Youth Basketball League’s scoring title, and that kind of output has everyone from Florida to Arizona to Kentucky, and many more, giving chase. Briscoe, a five-star sophomore, has agreed to give USA TODAY HSS exclusive access into his world by chronicling everything from intimate details about his recruitment to his everyday life in a blog.
What’s up world!
It’s your boy Boogie and I’m back to bring you guys another blog!
I just finished up Nike Global Challenge and it was such a great experience. It was really an honor to play with all of those great players and we did really well. We didn’t finish the way I would’ve wanted to but, all in all, it was great and I can’t wait to play in it again next year.
I played against Tyus Jones and a couple of other guys that I wanted to play against so that was cool. It went well; we both competed hard.
I had a really good camp at LeBron James Camp too. That was before Global.
My team went to the championship, but a lot of our players ended up getting hurt. We didn’t have Kelly Oubre or Ja’Sean Tate in the last game, but if we would’ve had them I think we would’ve won.
I was happy with how I played. I really got to show my point guard skills there and I feel like I worked hard.
I know a lot of rumors are flying around about where I’m going to high school next year, but the truth is I really don’t know where I’m going.
I won’t be going back to St. Benedict’s Prep (Newark, N.J.) and I won’t be going Findlay Prep (Henderson, Nev.). More than likely I’ll be staying closer to home. I’m looking at Our Savior (Bronx, N.Y.), Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) or Pope John (Sparta Township, N.J.).
After this week is over I go Atlantic City for a tournament then I’m headed to Vegas for a tournament and probably a few days after that is when everyone will know where I’m headed for my last two years of high school.
Stay tuned for that.
The recruitment is still going hard. That stuff never stops.
I had planned on visiting Florida and Miami this summer, but I’m not exactly sure when. I’ll get there though. I’m going to Arizona for their blue and red game so that should be cool.
I’ve been talking with Arizona a lot and Syracuse, Seton Hall, Pittsburgh, Indiana and Stanford has been calling me a lot lately too.
I know a lot of guys in the 2014 class are talking about package deals and going to school together and all that, but me and some players in 2015 are also thinking about playing together too.
Me, Ivan Rabb, C- Matt (Charles Matthews) and Diamond Stone have our own group chat and we talk about teaming up in college. Of course this stuff doesn’t always happen, but we’ve definitely been talking about it.
The one you could probably bank on is me and C-Matt. That’s my man right there!
We’re serious about the package deal. We’ve always talked about playing together in college and we’ve got some of the same schools recruiting both of us. If not, we’re gonna have to work that out.
We’ve even talked about visiting Arizona together and maybe some other visits together too. So stay on the lookout for that.
OK, well this part is a little embarrassing but just keepin’ it real my dad (George Briscoe) has been beating my one-on-one lately.
He wakes me up all early and is ready to play. He’s out there stretching and getting right before the game and everything and I come out all sleepy. But he definitely beat me six games in a row!
That’s crazy right? Even though my dad was a baller back in the day and all, but still…
I’m six games in the hole. I HOPE that changes next time I write my blog. He just knows all of my moves and everything so it’s really hard to beat him. He just finds a way to win.
Other than that, y’all know I’m still getting my pedicures and manicures every two weeks. You guys better get on that. Stop sleeping on that! It’s a manly thing to do.
OK, well let me get out of here people; you know I appreciate you reading and I want you to check back soon for my next entry. Hopefully I’ll have some better news about the one-on-one games with my dad.
