The Riverdale boys basketball team advanced to the winner’s bracket semifinals by defeating Chattanooga Howard 71-43 at the Sonic Shootout at White County High School Thursday afternoon.
Johnathan Matthews scored 15 points and Psalms Duff added 11 for the Warriors (8-5). Jalen Campbell also scored 11 points.
Cannon County 65, Franklin County 59: Cory Henley scored 14 points and Josh Ruehlen added 11 to lead the Lions (15-2) to the win in the Sonic Shootout too.
Cannon County will play Riverdale at 1:30 p.m. today in the winner’s bracket semifinals.
The winner will play in the shootout’s championship game at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at White County High.
Siegel 71, Jefferson County 59: Ryan Jones scored a team-high 22 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Stars (10-0), which advanced in the Super 16 Bearden Classic at Bearden High School in Knoxville.
Charles Clark added 19 points, including three 3-pointers, and DJ McGee finished with 14 points for Siegel, which outscored the Patriots 31-6 in second quarter thanks to a 27-2 run.
It was Jefferson County’s (14-2) second loss of the year. The Stars will play winner of CAK-Anderson County game at 6 p.m. today.
Oakland 69, Dobyns-Bennett 55: Ricky Dunnaway scored 18 points and Kyle Oliver scored 16 points for the Patriots (9-5) at the Arby’s Classic in Bristol, Tenn.
Tarique Hughes finished with 13 points and Ryan Givens added 10 points for Oakland, which has won seven of its last eight games and will play Oak Ridge High in the winner’s bracket quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Smyrna 63, Franklin 52: Jasmine Neal scored 17 points, Brianne Alexander added 15 points and Brooklyn Blanchard finished with 12 for the Lady Bulldogs (12-4) at State Farm Classic at Riverdale.
Smyrna will play Rossview at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Lancaster Christian 82, Independence 40: Abby Wright scored a game-high 27 points and Ja’lyn Brooks added 12 for the Lady Knights in the State Farm Classic at Riverdale High.
