One of the best things that spawned from the formation of the Granite Ridge Conference was that it became unquestionably one of the best wrestling conferences in the state.
The Granite Ridge Conference is loaded with strong wrestling programs and has been for many years.
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, two of the Granite Ridge’s best wrestling teams compete when Becker travels to Foley.
Becker has two state-ranked wrestlers in Bobby Lee (second in Class 2A at 170) and Zack Zimmer (fourth in 2A at 152).
Foley is ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 2A by The Guillotine and features six state-ranked wrestlers: Tyler Funk (second at 126), Randy Jenson (sixth at 138), Carter Nielsen (fifth at 145), Luke Kelvington (eighth at 170), Tyler Midas (third at 182), Mitch Struffert (fourth at 195) and Mitch Keeler (seventh at 220).
Becker is coached by Matt Aho.
The Bulldogs were 6-1 in the Granite Ridge last season and 18-5 overall. Their only conference loss was to Foley.
The Falcons are coached by Lyle Freudenberg and Scott Gorecki.
Foley was 6-0 in the conference and 24-5 overall last season and off to a good start in 2013.
The conference is again strong.
Milaca and Little Falls should both be strong and favorites in their respective sections.
Mora is always competitive.
Albany has outstanding individuals.
Look for a good night of wrestling.
