Tom's tips: Golf, track and baseball just might happen Friday

By

If something happens this week in the prep sports world, it’s likely to take place Friday.

Let’s start there.

There are two large events that look promising, if the weather improves, the snow melts, the fields dry and the temperatures stay warm enough not to cause frostbite.

At 1 p.m. Friday, at Pebble Creek Golf Course, Becker is host to a huge girls golf invitational.

Teams competing include: Albany, Big Lake, Buffalo, Cambridge-Isanti, Cloquet, Detroit Lakes, Heritage Christian Academy, Holy Family Catholic, Hutchinson, Monticello, Mound-Westonka, Princeton, Rogers, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud Tech, St. Michael-Albertville, St. Cloud Cathedral, Waconia and host Becker.

At 4:15 p.m. Friday, Foley is host to a track meet.

Foley has an excellent indoor facility and might move this indoors if the outdoor track isn’t ready to go.

Teams competing in track are: Eden Valley-Watkins, Glencoe-Silver Lake, Litchfield, Melrose, Milaca, Pine City and Staples-Motley.

At 5 p.m. Friday, St. Cloud Cathedral plays at Sauk Centre in softball.

Both of the teams should be decent, among the favorites in their subsections.

And at 2 p.m. Saturday, Cathedral hopes to host Proctor in baseball at the Municipal Athletic Complex.

Cathedral took second in state in Class 2A last June.

Proctor has played in the past two state tournaments.
