There are four metro football games Friday and all have some intrigue.
At the top of the list is Brainerd vs. St. Cloud Tech at 7:30 p.m. at Clemens Stadium in Collegeville.
Both teams are 4-0. Brainerd has been a Central Lakes Conference power forever and is ranked third in the state in Class 3A. The Warriors rolled over a previously unbeaten St. Cloud Apollo team 42-14 Friday. Tech won big at Moorhead, 33-23.
At 7 p.m. at St. Cloud State’s Husky Stadium, Foley plays St. Cloud Cathedral. It’s Cathedral’s homecoming. The two squads are tied for second in the Granite Ridge Conference. Both are chasing Becker.
At 7 p.m. at Apollo’s Michie Field, the Eagles are host to Fergus Falls in their homecoming game. Apollo (3-1) hopes to get back on track. The Otters are coming off a 35-34 win over Sauk Rapids.
At 7 p.m. at Sauk Rapids, the Storm look for their first win of the season against Moorhead (2-2).
A brief look at the rest of the week:
* Paynesville Invitational cross country meet, 4:30 p.m. at Koronis Hills Golf Course.
This is the big meet of the week with loads of area teams.
Teams running include: BOLD, Benson/Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball, Holdingford, Long Prairie-Grey Eagle, New London-Spicer, Rocori, Sauk Rapids, Willmar Community Christian, Sauk Centre and the hosts.
* Tech at Sartell boys soccer, 7:30 p.m.
They’re turning on the lights for this one at the Sartell Middle School. Sartell (5-0-1 CLC, 7-2-1 overall) leads the conference and Tech (3-1-1, 5-1-2) is right behind, the only team with one conference loss. The Sabres will be frontrunners in the CLC with a victory. A Tech win makes it interesting the rest of the way.
* Granite Ridge Conference tennis tournament, 9 a.m. at Foley
Foley is the team to beat. Becker, Little Falls, Mora, Aitkin, Pierz and Pine City also compete.
