It’s going to be a huge week for area prep events, so the Mega Meet might as well be scheduled in it.
Sauk Rapids is host to the huge annual track and field event beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Sauk Rapids Middle School.
The meet brings together a huge chunk of area teams, as well as some strong Twin Cities suburban squads.
Teams expected include: Albany, Blaine, Coon Rapids, Eden Valley-Watkins/Kimball, Foley, Litchfield, Little Falls, Monticello, St. Cloud Apollo, St. Cloud Cathedral, St. Cloud Christian, St. Cloud Tech, Sartell and host Sauk Rapids.
Weather has occasionally been dicey for this event, which means it’ll fit right in with the late spring we’re having.
Look forward to it.
Here is a brief look at a week with a whole bunch of events scheduled (finally):
* St. Michael-Albertville vs. St. Cloud Tech baseball, 7 p.m. at the Muncipal Athletic Complex.
St. Michael-Albertville is a team to watch in Section 8-3A. Tech expects to be improved.
* St. Cloud Cathedral at Albany softball doubleheader, 2 p.m.
Albany has been the team to beat in Section 6-2A and likely is a favorite in the Granite Ridge Conference. Cathedral has an experienced pitcher in right-hander Maria Bastin.
* Tech vs. St. Cloud Apollo baseball, 7 p.m. at Dick Putz Field.
It’s a matchup of the city’s two public high schools. Apollo recently has held the upper hand and is the defending Central Lakes Conference champion, but Tech has experience.
* John Deyak Invitational baseball tournament, 4 p.m. at the MAC.
This is Apollo’s tournament named after the longtime activities director and former head baseball coach who is deceased.
Deyak would love this tournament, with teams participating from all over the place, including Annandale, Minneapolis DeLaSalle, Maple Grove, Minneapolis Patrick Henry, Spring Lake Park and host Apollo. Play continues through Saturday evening.
